The Deeside Water Company is a family business, based at the source of the springs near Ballater on Royal Deeside in Aberdeenshire.

In 1994, George Simpson made a chance visit to Pannanich Wells and was shown the ancient springs which were at that time unused. He saw the potential of the water and this led to his son Martin leaving his job to set up the new business together. Almost two years of extensive research was undertaken to prove the qualities of the spring water and confirm its suitability for bottling.

The Deeside Spring Water brand was launched in May 1996 from an old stable building on the site. Hand bottling started from a single room near the springs and the first orders were delivered from the boot of the car.

Testing the waters

The Deeside Spring Water brand was launched in May 1996. Equipment and components were sourced and a small office was set up in the old stable building on site. Hand bottling started from a single room near the springs and the first orders were delivered from the boot of the car.

The aim was to test the market for a premium, healthy water and the positive publicity around its qualities generated significant interest. Sales grew and soon major retailers and supermarkets started stocking the spring water locally.

In the summer of 1997 a small bottling line was installed to produce larger volumes and Scottish listings with Safeway and Sainsbury’s were confirmed. Over time, positive publicity led to greater demand and distribution grew with Tesco, Asda and various wholesalers.

Sustainable growth

Deeside Water was recognised as a Natural Mineral Water in 1998 and a range of glass bottles were added to supply hotels and restaurants. In 2002, exports to Europe began, as well as bottling for Duchy Originals, the charitable food company established by HRH The Prince of Wales.

A new bottling line was installed in 2006 and a warehouse built in 2007, and the business has continued to grow sustainably. It now has a modern SALSA approved bottling plant and a host of prestigious customers throughout the UK and around the world, but retains its family values.

We remain firmly focused around operating in an ethical and sustainable way. A team of loyal staff, some of whom have been with us since the beginning, are at the heart of our business and we pride ourselves in offering this special water to our customers with friendly, efficient service.

Our Mission

Deeside Water is a unique gift from nature which has helped people for centuries. Our mission is to share its healing benefits with the world, making a positive difference to well-being, doing good where we can and preserving it for future generations.

We have a small, dedicated team who believe passionately in the properties of this special water. We care about doing the right thing and have a strong desire to preserve this special place for future generations. It’s why we do what we do.

We never forget we are a family business that is big enough to cope but small enough to care.

In a world of multinational corporations we are proud to be one the few independent operators left.
